AMRC is the national membership organization for the health and medical research charities in the UK. We influence the policy and research environment by harnessing the collective strengths of our members to demonstrate the sector’s positive impact on health and well-being.
AMRC supports our member charities to fund research of the highest quality, be a strong collective voice for medical research charities and interpret and influence the political and regulatory environment. We encourage innovation and collaboration and emphasize the importance of public investment in research and research infrastructure.
AMRC’s strategic framework has three elements: support, influence, connect.
Support: in order to help members meet their charitable objectives we offer high-quality training and seminars, ensure the topics we cover reflect emerging issues facing our members and focus on producing pragmatic guidance and toolkits.
Influence: we scan the horizon for key developments, interpret the legislative and political environment, and represent the collective charity voice with government, partners and other stakeholders.
Connect: we share with our members the valuable quantitative data we collect from them, offer opportunities for charities to work with industry and public funders, create opportunities for members to share learning to avoid duplication of effort and maximize the value of all they do.
While we don't fund research ourselves, our members fund £1.3bn of medical research in the UK - that's just over a third of all publicly funded medical research. Our members fund research across the diseases spectrum and along the translation pipeline.
- Total Expenditures: £750,277 ($1,072,063)
We recently launched a new guidance document - An Essential Partnership - showcasing almost 40 case studies for how our members collaborate with industry. More information about our collaborations can be found here.
AMRC is governed by an Executive Council. Eight trustees are elected or nominated by AMRC members and four are co-opted by the Council. Trustees serve a term of three years, and may serve for two terms.
